Putting On a 3rd (third) Layer of Shingles?

Before you can put on a 3rd layer of shingles on your roof you need to make sure your municipality allows it. You may need to get a roofing permit also. If you already have two layers of shingles and you are considering a third layer of shingles, the most obvious reason is the cost. Also consider that even though it is cheaper, you are putting on 250 pounds every 100 square feet. Most houses are around 3200 in roof surface. That would be 8000 pounds added to your already 16000 pound load on your roof. Not always good for your homes foundation. Also the roof gets very very hot, and the heat of the bottom layers will negatively effect the upper layers. On the positive side you do get an extra layer of protection, making leaks very hard to come through. So cost considerations on the one side, but as for curb appeal, with three layers of shingles its almost impossible to make the roof surface look even. It will look wavy. So it does certainly effect the curb appeal. If you need a roof rep;aced, and you are under the budget, then go ahead do it. However, if for God's sake, if you can afford to take down the two layers and do a complete new install then do so. Get to know us here at DFW Best Roofing, give us a call at 817 381 6855
